Update

I know it has been a long time since my last post. Not much has been happening in our lives.

• Went camping at Bear Canyon Lake with my whole side of the family.


• Month later staying in a nice cabin in Greer with most of Kent’s side of the family.


• Then another month later we went back to Greer with just Kent’s mom. Ate really yummy food. Have to thank Kent’s parents for that chance that we were able to get a way for a few days to nice weather and just relax.


• I started another crochenit afghan. Crochenit combines crocheting & knitting using only one needle. I picked up crochenit from my Grandma Harris.
  
• Last thing Kent and I have a signed and dated contact between the two us to take one day a week and go on a date. It is called Project 52: Date Nights. I found this great idea HERE. It has been a lot of fun. We just had our 9th date Wednesday.
  • 1st – We went bowling. Kent won 5 out of 6 games. Then had frozen yogurt at Mesa Frozen Yogurt, which was where we had our very first date.
  • 2nd - Walked through the art exhibit at the Mesa Temple Visitor’s Center. They have really great art it is a must see and the best part of it is FREE. Then went to nearby Dairy Queen for ice cream.
  • 3rd – Went to the Movie Theater and watched Toy Story 3. It was a good movie to see.
  • 4th – Rented and watched movies from blockbuster.
  • 5th – Ate at Village Inn because of their FREE pie night on Wednesday. While we were waiting we did a word search that had words that pertained to our life together. You can generate your own word searched HERE http://tools.atozteacherstuff.com/word-search-maker/wordsearch.php.
  • 6th – Went to Barnes & Noble and did a Bookworm Scavenger Hunt. I found the idea http://thedahlingdatingdivas.blogspot.com/2010/07/bookstore-date.html. We didn’t finish our list but it was just fun looking at all the books.
  • 7th – Had a double date with Melissa & Tres. We did a mall scavenger hunt. It was a tie. When we were done we met back up and had a Dairy Queen Blizard.
  • 8th – We used the Greer Trip with Kent’s mom as a weekend date. It was fun just relaxing and being together.
  • 9th – Movie & Frozen Yogurt. Watched Joseph Smith movie at the Mesa Temple Visitor’s Center. Any temple visitor’s center is a great date night because it is FREE. Plus we had a full “buy 10 yogurts get one free” card we that we used at Golden Spoon.
  

Family and Church History

I just love it when Family and Church History crosses paths because it makes the past more real. Kent and I teach the 9 years old in senior primary and for the next lesson we will be teaching about Joseph Smith in Liberty Jail. I decided to do a little extra bit of research in the Church published book “Our Heritage” and I came across a date when Joseph Smith and others arrived at Liberty Jail. That date was my great, great grandpa John Comish’s birthday and also my sister‘s Melissa Jo ( her middle name is shorted from his). So I begin to research the year he was born to find out how old he was. I found out that he was actually born on that day way back on 1 December 1838 in the Isle of Mann. His family weren’t members till he was five or six years old.

Out of all my ancestors John Comish is the one person I want to meet because I know and love the stories about him.

One story that I love is, when he watched, from a distance, a massacre of a tribe of Indians on the Bear River (located just outside of Preston, Idaho). It was a massacre where hundreds of men, women and even children, were slaughtered as they slept. Many died but there were survivors. One survivor was Sagwitch, one of the chiefs of the tribe, he was shot in the hand. Sagwitch went to John Comish because they were friends and he knew John would help him out. Today there is a monument for those that were killed in the massacre. I actually grew up near that land where the massacre took place. The monument could be seen from our kitchen window.

Here is a little bit of history written by my Grandma Harris.

John Comish, the fifth child of William and Elizabeth Keig Comish, was born December 1, 1838, at Douglas. After arriving in America, John worked on a boat on the Mississippi River. One morning he had a chance to leave St. Louis with a friend to travel to Utah, but as he pondered trying to decide whether to leave, the boat pulled out and left him. However, as he stood watching, the boat blew up and his friend was drowned. He came to Utah with his family. While living in Kaysville, John worked for Bishop Layton during the summer and herded cattle on the promontory during the winter months. In 1858, John was a Minuteman in the Horton D. Haight Company and went to the Salmon River to fight the Indians. He also took part in the Echo Canyon trouble, aiding Lot Smith. He served as an Indian scout on several occasions and made seven trips across the plains. In Florence, Nebraska, he meta seventeen-year-old English girl. He escorted her to the evening dances and prayer circles. She was Esther Elizabeth Standford, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Barnett Standford, born in Southwick, Sussex, England, February 20, 1845. They were married November 22, 1862, in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City by Wilford Woodruff. John and Esther settled in the Franklin area where their first eight children were born. John, his father William, and his brother, Robert Nephi, were each given five acres of land in the area known as Whitney and thus became some of the early land-owners in Idaho. They loved company and everyone was treated well when they came to visit. During the polygamist raids, their home became a sanctuary for several people in flight for their lives. John loved his garden and fish ponds. It was stated in a newspaper article that his ponds contained between twelve and fifteen thousand fish. Esther died March 15, 1916, and John died May 14, 1922. Both are buried in the Franklin Cemetery. They were the parents of fifteen children. (Verla Comish Harris).

I just love family history and the stories that I find out about our ancestors. One of my next projects is putting a Book of Remembrance together going back at least 5 generations on both sides (Kent’s and mine). Then once done I am going to in a future “Kent and Tauna Coombs Family” family chest.

HCG Diet

I am so excited about losing weight. I am on the HCG Diet. I have been on it for two weeks now. So far I have lost a total of 16 pounds. I am planning on losing a lot more.

The HCG diet is a weight loss program that you take drops, intake 500 calories a day, eat certain foods, and drink a lot of water. At first I thought I couldn't just eat 500 calories but with the drops and the weight loss I am making it through. With the drops I really don't feel hungry. If I only ate 500 calories worth of food, you would not want to be around me. Trust me. I have almost two more weeks on the drops then I will be on a maintenance plan. On the maintenance plan, I will be going from 500 calories to 1500 calories just because I will be off the drops.

Kent is not doing it but has been a great support for me. I am not the only one in my family doing the HCG diet my dad and two of my sisters, Melissa and Jessica. They are all losing weight.

Another Update

I have been so bad at blogging. There is alot that has happened since my last update.

• First thing, we both had birthdays back in November.
• Kent took a 3 week CNA class and passed it and now is taking care of his Grandpa Coombs. He loves doing it.
• My dad had a mild heart attack back in January. After three weeks in the hospital he got to go home. He is doing fine and back to his old self.
• My family's dog, Princess died of old age. We have had her since she was born and that was about 18 years ago. She will be missed. I didn't think I would cry over a dog but I did. It was really sad but it was her time to go.
• We have a niece in the Coombs family. She is the first granddaughter. Her name is London Jean Coombs, to Joe and Marcie. She is so cute.
• We celebrated our 2nd year anniversary. We didn't really no anything. We just to the Mesa Temple grounds and took pictures. I am so blessed to have Kent as a husband.
• We are now teaching the 9 year old class in primary. Since we are in senior primary we teach first then sharing time last.
• Went on a Coombs' Vaction to Disneyland and California Adventures. We had loads of fun with most of Kent's family. Even though it rained both day that we were there, it didn't ruined the trip.
• We moved!!! We are loving the new place. We moved from a little studio apartment to a two bedroom place for the same place. Plus we have a washer and dryer. And we are staying in the same ward. I just didn't want to get adjusted to another ward again.

Well, that is what is up with the Coombs family. Hope all is well with everyone.

Update

I just noticed that it has been a while since the last Post. On major thing that has happened was that Kent got let go but luckly we found another one. He will be working a the MARC Center at Country Club and Brown. He starts Sep 15. We just want to say thank-you for everyone that has helped and kept us in their prayers. Together we took the two employment classes through the church. Both classes were worth taking. The best part about them are they are free. Who can beat that. Another thing is that ASU football season started. (It is something Kent looks forward to every year.) I am not a big fan but I have been to a one full game, it was fun. It is a time for Kent to hang with his family. GO ASU. Well, that is about all.

New Calling

This past Sunday, Kent and I got set apart as CTR - 7 team teachers. We are both excited for this calling in our ward. We get to go back to primary. We enjoyed Sunday school, Priesthood, and Relief Society but we get to sing, have sharing time, even coloring and go to primary activities. Since we got married we have lacked little on going to church, so a calling that gets us to us to church ever Sunday will help us grow and learn. I love church and what it offers to us. I know this calling will bless our life.

New Additions to the family

We had a long weekend with two weddings receptions to attend. One on each side of our family.

The first was Kent's sister, Jenny got married to William Bradford. We are both happy for them. We wish the best for them. William fits right in with the Coombs family. He is a great person for Jenny. The weekend started on Thursday with the family dinner. Friday morning the Sealing in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Neilson's for lunch. Then family picutures and the reception Friday night. It was alot of fun.

The second was my cousin's Trenton Ethington he married Brook Buchanan. We only went to the reception. It was a nice elegate setting. With the lights down low.

3 lbs down lot more to go

I weighed in and I am down 3 pounds. YAHOO! But I do have many more pounds to go. What helped this week is oatmeal and water. Oatmeal is not my favorite food. The oatmeal that I actually tastes good. The name of it is Coachs oatmeal, it is in a bag at Costco.

Weight Lose Club

I am so excited. The past few years I have thought and thought of ways to start a weight loss group. Finally it is happening. A good friend of my mine who moved back here to Arizona from Montanta wanted to lose weight and suggest that we should start a club or group. So we and two of my sisters got together to help each other accompish that goal. The past week was our first week. So don't know how much I have lost. I know for a fact I didn't lose that much if any. There is always a fresh start to try again this next week. We are going to have weekly meetings to weigh in and have fun. It will help each of us stay motivated.

Rock Band

We got the Rock Band for the Wii. It is so fun playing it once you know how to play. The day after we got it my brother Jimmy and his friends came over to jam it up. It is great for a group to play. Especially when we take it over to our families, since there are a lot of people that wants to play. We want everyone to have a turn to play. The game comes with a wireless guitar, drum, and microphone. The music has alot of different rock songs. Not my most favorite genre of music but it is still fun to play.

New Addition

This past week we had a new addition to our family. We bought a male winter white hamster. We named him Stewart. I will have to take pictures of him and put on here. It has been fun taking care of him.

New Template

YAHOO! I figured out how to change the blog style. This is so cool. With the little bit of help from Ashley Peterson. Thanks, Ashley. It is still not perfect how I want it but in due time it will. Pink is surprisingly one of Kent favorite colors it is more like hot pink though. I'm getting used to this blogging thing. I will put more pic up later. Have a wonderful day.

THE ENGAGMENT - November 11, 2006

The day started when my sister, Melissa took me shopping for clothes. She told me it was so I could have something nice to wear to take some sister pictures. I agreed since Kent told me that he was going to help a friend out with a project. We got already and headed to our parents house to get some spending money. We had lunch and went shopping. Once I tried on many cloths and shoes we went back to our parent's house to show off the new outfits. I picked an outfit to wear for the pictures and Melissa put makeup on me. Then we went to our place to do the pictures. When we got there our roommate, Lisa, told us she found a puppy and was asking what we should do with it, just so I would go outside. There I found not a puppy but an all-dressed-up Kent sitting at a candle-lit table waiting for me. He got up, pulled out my chair and went back to his seat. He told me how much he loved me, that he is lucky to have me in his life, and that I am very special person. He then got up came to me and knelt down on one knee and asked the question
WILL YOU MARRY ME? The feeling I had was overwhelming. Of course I said YES to someone that I love dearly. I did have a few spies that were hoping I would say yes. The night continued with dinner from Applebee's that was served by another sister, Jessica. The night was wonderful. The back porch was decorated very nice and elegant: with white Christmas lights hanging on the ceiling, rose petals on the ground, the table covered in a white tablecloth with two candles burning and a vase of pretty red roses. Later on I found out that he was preparing all day for that night. The plan was almost blown when he was watching TV at my parent's house when we stopped by the first time. My family said that was the first time they have seen him run that fast.

How we met - May 2006

The first time we met was at a hospital visiting a friend, Tiffany Stephen. At the time I was a roommate with Tiffany and Kent was dating a friend of hers. They knew each other through their parents. While at the hospital, I noticed him looking at me a lot. It wasn't until Kent left; I felt my heart drop thinking I wouldnt see him again. Life went on for both of us. A few weeks later Tiffany heard that Kent and his girlfriend had broken up and happened to see him at the airport. She invited him over to go swimming and told him she had someone she wanted him to meet. I was excited to see him again. A few weeks later, we meet again. The night was a lot of fun. The first part of the night he was trying to impress a friend of mine, thinking it was me, but he was not interested in her. Once I got to the pool, he was glad it was me he was supposed to meet. The rest of the night we just had fun swimming and getting to know each other better. Phone numbers were exchanged. We set up a date to get frozen yogurt but he cancelled and we decided to go our separate ways. The following weekend, my mom, sister and I went out to see a friend and her family. Her husband asked if we had any prospects. I let him know the story about Kent. He encouraged me to call him back. The next Tuesday I was at a Diamond Backs Baseball game with some friends, when Tiffany got a text from Kent asking about me. Well, that was my chance to text him back. We set up another date to get frozen yogurt. After a couple of days getting know each other, we decided to give each other a chance to see where our relationship goes. Five months later we knew we were going to be together.

First Post

This is my first posting to this blog, not sure what to write or do. I am sure once I start doing it I will get the hang of it. I will try to keep this updated as life keeps going forward.
